Recent Calls

July 18, 2008- At 11:31 Schuylkill Haven, Station 1 was dispatched for Ladder 725 to 309 South Delaware Street, Minersville Boro,(Mr. D’s Interior’s) for a working commerical fire.  Ladder 725 arrived on location and put their ladder into service as Minersville command was asking for R.I.T. out of Schuylkill Haven to be utilized on scene.  Engine 737 and Squad 739 responded with a group of 12 for R.I.T.  While Ladder 725 and R.I.T. was on location, Minersville command asked for Tanker 738 out of Station 4 to assist with tanker shuttles….more details to follow…….

July 17, 2008- At 15:36, Schuylkill Hose, Station 2 was dispatched to assist District 34 on a propane leak at 63 Blue Mountain Road, Wayne Township.  Station 2, along with District 58 (HH&L), Pottsville Station 11 (air monitoring) assisted on the call, as well as Berks County, Station 50 for their Tanker.  The crews from Haven assisted with removal and were placed available within an hour and a half.

July 17, 2008- In the early morning hours, Station 4 was dispatched to assist District 34 (Friedensburg and Summit Station) on a working structure fire at 1 Fire House Road, Wayne Township.  As Schuylkill Haven units came up on air, county advised that it was a working garage fire in the area of Summit Station Fire House, and that there was 2 victims burned from the fire.  Engine 737 and Tanker 738 responded to assist with the fire, and to take care of any overhaul duties.  Liberty Fire Co. was out for an hour and a half….

July 15, 2008- At 17:17 Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with injuries to 45 Kelsey Drive, North Manheim Twp. (Sunnyside Development)  Chief 720 went responding, and county advised of a two car crash, and one patient had a head injury.  The Chief arrived on location and had Rescue 727  and Engine 732 come in under caution.  Crews assisted with patient care until Medic 63-01 arrived on location.  When medics and State Police showed up, they advised that all fire units can return to the borough.  Time out- 15 minutes

July 14, 2008- At 10:20 this morning Stations 2 & 4 were dispatched to the area of 680 Berne Drive, South Manheim Twp. for a reported tree down on the roadway.  Engines 732 and 737 along with Chief 720 responded normal flow.  As Engine 737 arrived on scene they advised the chief that it was a small branch on the road, and crews literally kicked it off the roadway.  Chief 720 cleared himself and both engines within 10 minutes of dispatch.

July 13, 2008- Early in the morning, and after each of the companies had put their trucks and equipment back together…Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to 1571 Route 61 North, to the area of Ryan Brothers Used Car Lot for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries at 06:52.  As Chief 720 arrived on scene he reported that it was a pickup truck vs. A……..backhoe!!  One more time…..pickup truck vs.  A parked backhoe.  The chief advised that there was no injuries and asked to cancel EMS while en route, and had Rescue 727 and Engine 732 to continue in to clean up debris off the road and parking lot.  Crews were cleared within 20 minutes.

July 12, 2008-  Just before 12pm Schuylkill County Communications Center dispatched the Schuylkill Haven Fire Department to 401 University Drive, North Manheim Twp. for a reported structure fire.  The address was given as the “old nursing home”, but to the people in the county, and more importantly to members of the fire department, it’s know as “The 1912 Building”.  Duty Chief 720 went responding within minutes and Comm Center said they had several calls on this,  and it was possible that it was just trash burning to the rear of the building.  As Chief 720 (Peel) arrived on scene, along with Engines 732, 737, and Ladder 725 there was heavy smoke from the rear, as well as from the front of the building.  Engine 732 went to the rear of the building to knock down the fire around back while Engine 737 “hooked” the hydrant to feed 732, as the crew from 737 gained entry to the front of the building.  The crew from Ladder 725 set up and utilized the stick cutting vent holes to the front of the building, almost right away!! As each of the crews did their primary search of the building, and reported to Command 720, it was found that there was numerous parts of the building involved, prompting Command to “Tap the 2nd alarm”.  The 2nd alarm Commercial Structure Fire brought in:  Ladder 51 (Pottsville), Pottsville R.I.T., Engine 56-10 (Orwigsburg), Engine 47-10 (Landingville), Engine 34-15 (Summit Station).  Within minutes of the 2nd alarm arriving on the scene, each of the apparatus was being used as well as the manpower from their respective companies.  However, do to the over all building conditions and the temperature, Chief Peel decided to hit for a 3rd Alarm.  The 3rd Alarm Commercial Structure Fire brought in: Tower 519 (Minersville), Engine 369 for R.I.T. (Englewood), Tower 456 (Mahanoy City), as well as Rescue 993 for R.I.T. (Mahanoy City). As the condition of building worsened, it was decided to go into defensive mode to hit the fire, triggering a master stream attack from all engines and/or ladders surrounding the building.  This caused a very drastic problem with water pressure that was being taken from the hydrants from around the entire complex.  It was then decided to activate a “Tanker Task Force”.  Bringing in:  District 42 (Deer Lake), District 39 (Auburn), Disctrict 3 (Llewellyn), District 55 (New Ringgold), and District 34, Station 1 (Friedensburg).  And for a special request Chief 720 asked to have Berks County, Aerial 61 (Hamburg) also brought to the scene as well as Schuylkill  Valley EMS for their Rehab Unit. While all the crews were being used at the fire scene it was decided to have move-up assignments for Schuylkill Haven Boro, which brought in:  District 58 (Pine Grove HH&L) which stood by at the Schuylkill Hose, and District 41, Station 1 (Cressona #1) which stood by at the Liberty Fire Co.

July 12, 2008- At 08:45 Schuylkill County Comm. Center dropped Fire Department tones to assist Medic 63-01 to 54 Dock Street, Schuylkill Haven Boro, for a cardiac arrest.  Crews that arrived on scene were utilized for only a short time and were placed available within 15 minutes.

July 11, 2008- Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to the area of North Garfield Avenue and Centre Avenue for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries just at after 12pm.  Duty Chief 723 (Donatti) arrived on scene and advised county that there was no injuries or entrapment.  Crews from Rescue 727 and Engine 732 cleaned the road of debris and were placed avaiable in a half hour.

July 9, 2008- At 07:07 Stations 1 & 4 were dispatched to assist Districts 56, 42, and 47 (Orwigsburg, Deer Lake, and Landingville) for an Automatic Fire Alarm at 1000 Orwigsburg Manor Road, Orwigsburg.  But before Schuylkill Haven units arrived on the scene, they were placed available by Orwigsburg command Chief 56 (Hardinger). Time out was just about 5 minutes.

July 8, 2008- At 12:05 today, Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to the area of 211 Centre Ave, Schuylkill Haven Boro, for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries.  However, before Rescue 727 or Engine 732  could go responding they were placed in service by SHPD.

July 8, 2008- This morning at 08:45, Rainbow, Station 1 was dispatched for Squad 726 to 83 St. James Street, Schuylkill Haven Boro, to assist Medic 63-01 on a possible cardiac arrest.  As the Squad went responding, they were advised to cancel the call per police department on the scene.

July 5, 2008- Early in the morning at 02:38 the Rainbow Hose was dispatched for Rescue 727 to assist Pottsville Fire at 1972 West Howard Avenue, Pottsville City, for a motor vehicle accident with multiple patients, and multiple entrapped.  However, before the Rescue got rolling, they were place available by Pottsville City command.

July 3, 2008- At 20:02 Stations 2 & 4 were dispatched to the area of 402 St. John Street, Schuylkill Haven Boro, for a reported tree down.  Duty Chief 722 (Sattizahn) arrived on scene and advised that only one engine would handle it, and canceled off Engine 737, while Engine 732 took the call.  Cleared the scene in under 20 minutes.

July 2, 2008- At 20:38 all 3 Schuylkill Haven stations were dispatched to 308 St. Charles Street, Schuylkill Haven boro, for smoke in a house.  As Duty Chief 722 (Sattizahn) arrived on scene and investigated, it turned out to be…..”dune buggy burnouts”.  2 dune buggies lit off their tires on St. Charles street, blanketing the street with smoke, and going into houses.  Chief 722 notified Haven PD and placed all apparatus available within 10 minutes.

July 1, 2008- Right around 17:15 Schuylkill Hose, Station 2, was dispatched to assist Berks County at 1236 Pottsville Pike, Perry Township, for a working commercial structure fire.  Perry Township command asked for Station 2, Orwigsburg (District 56), and Deer Lake (District 42) out of Schuylkill County to help bring the fire under control. As Station 2 was put in service as they arrived on scene, Hamurg command asked if he could also have Rainbow Hose, Station #1 for a full station assignment to stand by for the boro of Hamburg, as they had “dumped” their station on the Pottsville Pike incident.  After well over an hour, as units started clearing from the scene, all Schuylkill Haven units had been cleared and released back to the boro.

July 1, 2008- Early in the morning at 06:38 the Schuylkill Haven Fire Department R.I.T was dispatched to 507 Orchard Lane, Pottsville City, for a reported working structure fire.  Engine 737 and Squad 739 went responding within minutes of dispatch, and after arriving on location in the city, they were released from Pottsville command (P-4) as the bulk of the fire was extinguished and crews were already in clean up mode.  R.I.T. was out for just under 1 hour.

June 30, 2008- All three Schuylkill Haven stations were dispatched to 302 Randel Street, North Manheim Twp. (St. Ambrose School) for an automatic fire alarm.  Duty Chief 722 (Sattizahn) arrived on scene and investigated and found out that there was a faulty alarm.  Chief Sattizahn cleared himself and all Haven units.  Time out- 10 mins.

June 29, 2008- At 03:49 Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to 1426 Route 61 South, North Manheim Twp. for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries.  More details to follow…

June 26, 2008 – At 2:12 Schuylkill Haven Fire Department was dispatched to 120 Pottsville Street, Cressona Boro for a structure fire. As Schuylkill Haven units went responding, county advised of a working structure fire, with possible entrapment. As Cressona command 41-05 (Woleschock) and Chief 720 (Peel) arrived on scene they had reports that there was no entrapment, and that the female who resided in the home was away. Chief 41-05 took command of the scene and had asked for additional units to respond for manpower and R.I.T. The following companies were utilized at the scene: S.H.F.D. Cressona Fire, Pottsville R.I.T., Englewood R.I.T., Minersville,and Orwigsburg. June 19, 2008- At 20:12 Schuylkill Haven Fire Dept. R.I.T. (rapid intervention team) was dispatched to 623 West Race Street, Pottsville City,  to assist Pottsville on a working structure fire.  Once R.I.T. arrived on scene Pottsville command had them stage outside near the fire building.  Luckily, the team was not used, and city units handled the call.  Total time out for R.I.T. was about an hour and a half.

June 19, 2008- At 13:21 Stations 2 & 4 were dispatched to 490 Route 61 South, North Manheim Twp. in the area of Renninger’s Market, for a brush fire.  Chief 723 (Donatti) arrived on scene and had Engine 732 come in normal flow and cancelled off Engine 737 en route as it was a very small fire.  All Schuylkill Haven units were cleared within 15 minutes.

June 18, 2008- At 11:25 Rainbow and Schuylkill Hose were dispatched to 359 Centre Ave, Schuylkill Haven Boro (the old Texaco), for a motor vehicle accident involving a motor cycle.  Rescue 727 and Engine 732 took care of the call and were placed available only after a couple minutes.

June 17, 2008- This morning at 04:52 stations 2 & 4 were dispatched to 322 Berne Drive, South Manheim Twp. for a tree down. Engines 732 and 737 went responding, but their services were not needed as this was a “frequent flyer” and there was nothing that they would be able to do. Chief 723 (Donatti) cleared himself and both engines within 10 minutes.

June 14,2008- Early this morning at 05:58 Liberty Station 4 was dispatched with Districts 47 and 56 (Orwigsburg and Landingville)  to 921 West Market Street (Schuylkill Country Club) for another Automatic Fire Alarm.  However, before any units could go responding, they were all cancelled and put back in service.

June 13, 2008- At 14:56 Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to the intersection of Seven Stars Road and Route 61, North Manheim Twp. for a motor vehicle accident, reported to be a motor cycle.  Chief 722 (Satty) arrvied on scene and cancelled Rescue 727 and Engine 732 as there was no need for any fire apparatus. All units were placed available shortly after dispatch.

June 11, 2008- Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to 24 E. Main Street, Sch. Haven Boro for a motor vehicle accident with injuries just before 9:00 this morning.  Crews cleaned up debris and fluids that were on the roadway and were placed available. Total time out 25 mins.

June 10, 2008- Duty Chief 722 (Sattizahn) along with Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to the area of 32 Renninger Avenue, North Manheim Twp. for a reported brush fire around 21:00.  Chief 722 got on the scene and realized that there was not a big fire, and that there wasn’t going to be any apparatus needed for the call.  So before Engine 732, and Rescue 727 were on location, they were placed available.  Total time out was 10 minutes.

June 8, 2008-  Yet again today at 20:28 all the stations were dispatched to 110 Route 61 (White Church) for another automatic fire alarm.  Crews did the same type of search and, again came up with nothing.  Chief Sattizahn silenced the alarm and marked control in about 10 minutes.

June 8, 2008- Today at 15:29 S.H.F.D. was called to 110 Route 61 (“The White Church”) North Manheim Twp. for an Automatic Fire Alarm.  Chief 722 arrived on scene with nothing showing from the exterior.  Units did a search of the building, reset the alarm and cleared the scene.

June 6, 2008- At 16:36 all 3 S.H.F.D. companies were dispatched to the intersection of Parkway and Columbia Streets for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment, with a vehicle roll over. Chief 722 (Sattizahn) arrived quickly, and notified all incoming units that there was no entrapment, and no fluids on the roadway, and to have everyone come in under caution.  SHPD handled the scene, and shortly after all fire units were placed available.

June 5, 2008- At 12:03 Schuylkill Hose, Station 2 was dispatched to assist Districts 56 (Orwigsburg) and 42 (Deer Lake) to the intersection of Route 61 and Route 895 in Molino for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment.  As Deer Lake command arrived on scene he had noticed that there was a large vat of blacktop sealer, that one of the trucks involved in the accident had spilled just about all of the 300 gallons it was transporting all over the highway.  Command asked to have Station 2 dispatched for the Haz-Mat truck, as they didn’t have near the supplies needed to clean the area up.  Chief 720, Haz-Mat 63-2, Squad 734, and Engine 732 responded to the call and weren’t placed available until just after 2:00.

June 4, 2008- Today at 14:47 all 3 Schuylkill Haven stations were dispatched to assist District 41 ( Cressona) to 53 Pottsville Street, Cressona Boro (Sapa…a.k.a. Alcoa) for a commercial structure fire. As Duty Chief 720 (Peel) went responding, county advised of an electrical fire on the roof.  Cressona command, Chief 41-01 (Krammes) had other units coming in due the nature of the fire and time of day:  District 53 (Mount Carbon) District 34, station 1 (Friedensburg), Minersville- Tower 519, Pottsville City- Ladder 51. After extinguishing a small fire Chief 41-01 started releasing units, as they were not needed.  Total time out for S.H.F.D. was a little over an hour.

 

June 3, 2008-Stations 1 &2  along with District 41, Stations 1 & 2 (Cressona) were dispatched at 13:20 to 1544 Route 61 (Cressona Mall Enterance) for a motor vehicle accident involving a motor cycle.  Chief 720 arrived on scene within seconds of the dispatch and advised county that there was no need for any fire apparatus, that both vehicles were off the road.  Placed all units clear within 5 minutes.

June 1, 2008- Early this morning again today at 02:16 Station 4 was dispatched to 921 West Market Street, North Manheim Twp to assist Districts 47 and 56 on an Automatic Fire Alarm.  But before Engine 737 could go responding, they were held in station by Chief 56 (Hardinger).  And within 5 minutes, Chief 56 cancelled off all units and went available.

May 30, 2008- And the S.H.F.D. is staying hot to close out a busy month of May: At 19:03 Liberty Station #4 was dispatched to assist District 56 (Orwigsburg) and 47 (Landingville) to 921 West Market Street, North Manheim Twp. (Schuylkill Country Club) for an Automatic Fire Alarm. However, before Engine 737 and Wagon 736 could arrive on scene, they were placed available by District 56 command as it was an accidental trip. Time out for the call was about 10 minutes.

May 30,2008- Stations 1&2 were dispatched to the area of 950 East Main St. and Route 61 (McDonald’s) for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. As units were going responding, County advised of a two vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. As units arrived they did a size up on the severity of the accident and asked County to put Medevac on stand-bye until paramedics arrived. Medics arrived and asked to “fly the bird”. A landing zone was set up nearby, leaving Rescue 727 remaining at the crash scene and Engine 732 and Squad 726 to the Landing Zone.  All units were busy for about 1.5 hrs.

May 29, 2008- What is turning out to be a very busy end of the month for the all members of S.H.F.D.!!!  All 3 stations were dispatched to 114 East Union Street, Schuylkill Haven Boro, for smoke in a structure at 20:47.  As units were responding County gave additional that it was a possible dryer fire and the house was filling up with smoke.  Once everyone got there, they found the source of the smoke, which was clothes that have been burned inside the dryer.  No handlines were used to extinguish, just a “good ole’ water can”.  Crews did a search of the rest of the room with a thermal imager and ventilated the house.  Time out for the department 1 hour.

May 28, 2008- Once again today Rainbow and Liberty were dispatched to the 100 block of Parkway, Schuylkill Haven Boro, for a motor vehicle accident with no injuries.  Rescue 727 and Engine 737 arrived to the scene and were shortly placed available by Chief 723, as there were no fluids or debris on the roadway.

May 28, 2008- Rainbow and Schuylkill Hose were dispatched to the area of 1530 Route 61 South, North Manheim Twp. for a motor vehicle accident, with a minor injury. Rescue 727, and Engine 732 were on scene, cleaned up debris and were placed available in roughly 30 minutes.

May 27, 2008- Once again tonight at 21:54 all Schuylkill Haven Stations were dispatched to 300 Willow Street, Schuylkill Haven Boro, (Tamaqua Cable, or Draka) for a reported Commercial Structure Fire. This was a familiar address to the department as we had a working structure fire here, just 3 years ago!!  As Duty Chief 723 (Donatti) went responding, County Comm. Center had said that they had recieved numerous calls on this and that they had heavy fire coming from one of the “curing ovens”.  Chief Donatti got on scene and advised all units of heavy smoke in the area.  Engine 732 was used as the attack piece, while Engine 737 “hooked” a hydrant and supplied water to the scene, and Ladder 725 was put into service quickly to check for extension along roof line.  After the fire was knocked down, crews removed the smoke from the building, and removed the burnt wiring from inside the oven.  All units were busy for just under 2 hours. **”Gomez” Krammes Pics”

 

May 27, 2008- All S.H.F.D. stations were dispatched today at 11:28 to 57 Stanton Street, Schuylkill Haven Boro, for a reported house fire. As units went respoding, county communications advised of smoke in the residence, with the possibility of burnt food in the microwave.  Chief 723 (Donatti) arrived on scene and confirmed that it was burnt food, and to have all units come in under caution.  Crews did a sweep of the house with thermal imaging cameras, and cleared the remaining smoke out with positive pressure ventilation fans.  All units cleared the scene in about 40 minutes. **Thanks MLK for the photos**

May 26, 2008- Today at 14:35 Stations 1 & 4 were dispatched to 205 Mckinley Street in the boro to assist Medic 63-01 for a traumatic injury.  However, before Engine 737 and Rescue 727 could arrive on scene, they were placed available by orders of Chief 723.

May 25, 2008- At 17:07 Stations 1 &2 were dispatched to the area of Adamsdale Road and Memorial Drive for a motor vehicle accident with no entrapment, but with injuries.  Engine 732, Haz Mat 734, and Rescue 727 under the command of Acting Duty Chief 735 (Kremer) handled the call.  Units assisted with debris and command placed them available within 30 minutes.

May 22, 2008- Rainbow and Schuylkill Hose were dispatched to 159 Seven Stars Road, North Manheim Twp, for a tree down at 17:27.  Chief 722 (Satty) arrived on scene and advised county to cancel all apparatus.  Chief cleared the scene in 5 minutes.

May 22, 2008- All 3 stations were dispatched to assist District 41 (Cressona) to 6 Grove Street, Cressona boro for a reported barn fire. As units arrived on location and did a search of the building, they realized that it was steam coming off the roof, and all units were placed clear within 20 minutes.  Companies dispatched: District 41 (Cressona) S.H.F.D.- (Rainbow, Schuylkill, Liberty) District 53 (Mount Carbon), District 47 (Landingville), District 34 (Friedensburg and Summit Station)

May 21, 2008- Today at 15:35 Stations 1 &2 were dispatched to assist Districts 56, 42, and 47 (Orwigsburg, Deer Lake, and Landingville) on a house fire at 395 Second Mountain Road, West Brunswick Township. Station 1 was requested for their ladder and Station 2 was sent for additional manpower.  However, neither of their services were needed, and all Schuylkill Haven units were returned to the boro.

May 21, 2008- At 11:44 Chief 722 (Sattizahn) and Station 2 were dispatched to the area of 212 St. John St. Schuylkill Haven Boro for a vehicle leaking fluids.  Engine 732 and the Chief handled the call and were out for roughly 20 minutes.

May 19, 2008- At 09:09 at the request of Chief 34-06 (Fenstermacher) the Schuylkill Haven Fire Water Rescue Team was dispatched to 701 Wynonah Drive (Lake Wynonah) South Manheim Twp, to assist District 34 (Friedensburg and Summit Station) on a search for a missing child.  However, before any units from Schuylkill Haven could repsond they were placed available by 34-06, as the child was located.

May 17, 2008- Early in the morning at 03:01 Chief 722 (Sattizahn) along with Stations 1 & 2, were dispatched to the area of 270 Route 61 South, North Manheim Twp. for a Motor Vehicle accident with no injuries, but with fluids down.  Rescue 727 and Engine 732 took care of the fluids and debris and were cleared in under a half hour.

May 15, 2008- Once again today at 16:20 all three companies were dispatched to the Waste Water Treatment Plant for a Hazardous Materials Incident.  Chief 722 (Sattizahn) arrived on scene and advised County Comm. Center, and all incoming units that it was a faulty alarm.  Chief 722 cleared all units within 20 mins.

May 14, 2008- Tonight at 21:24 Schuylkill County Comm. Center dispatched S.H.F.D. to St. Charles Street and West William Street (Sch. Haven Waste Water Treatment Plant) for a Hazardous Materials Incident. Upon units going responding, county advised that there was a chlorine leak in the building.  Duty Chief 720 (Peel) arrived on location, and advised that there was no odor, but an audible alarm had been activated.  Chief Peel had all units stage within a block of the incident until apporpriate people could come and investigate the situation.  As a result, workers from the plant advised crews that it was a faulty alarm and all units were placed available within an hour.

May 12, 2008- Early this morning at 02:34 stations 1 & 4 were dispatched to the rear of 209 Parkway, for a motor vehicle accident, with unknown injuries.  As Chief 720 went responding county advised him of a vehicle over an embankment.  Chief Peel got on scene and advised county to cancel all incoming units, and that Haven PD were handling the call.

May 11, 2008- This morning at 07:34 Schuylkill Haven Fire Dept. was dispatched to 350 Route 61 South, North Manheim Twp. (Van Huesen Plant) for a automatic fire alarm. Crews did a brief search and reset the alarm and were cleared in under 20 minutes.

May 10, 2008- At 19:43 the Schuylkill Haven Fire Dept. was dispatched to the area of 126 Avenue D, in the boro for a search.  However, before any units could go responding county advised that the child was located and that our services would not be needed.

May 10, 2008- At 13:43 Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to the area of the Cressona Mall, 1544 Route 61 for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries.  Duty Chief 720 got on location and advised county of a 3 pile up in the southbound lanes with only a minor injury.  Rescue 727 and Engine 732 handled the call and were placed available in about an hour.

May 9, 2008- Tonight at 21:27 Rainbow and Schuylkill Hose were dispatched to the area of 1544 Route 61 South, North Manheim Twp (Cressona Mall) for a motor vehicle accident, with no injuries, but with fluids down.  Chief 720 (Peel) Rescue 727, Engine 732, and Haz-Mat 734 handled the call and all went available within a half hour.

May 8, 2008- At 14:02 The Schuylkill Haven Water Rescue team was dispatched to assist District 37 (West Penn Twp.)  at 25 Quarry Road, West Penn Twp.  for a water rescue, vehicle into a pond.  However, before Dive Boats 2, 3 , and 4 could deploy, all Schuylkill Haven Units were placed back into service.

May 6, 2008- At 16:55 Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to the area of Route 61 and University Drive for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries.  Acting Duty Chief 730 (Reed) arrived on location and advised county of a 2 car crash with a minor injury.  Both cars were towed from the scene and crews cleaned up the road, and were placed available in about 30 minutes.

May 2, 2008- At 13:46 Rainbow and Schuylkill Hose were dispatched to 110 Route 61 South, North Manheim Twp. to set up a landing zone for incoming air medical, Medevac 7. All units remainded on scene for about 20 mins.

April 27, 2008- Today at 09:34 Stations 2 &4 were dispatched to South Berne Street and West Columbia Street for a vehicle fire. Upon Engine 732 and Engine 737 response, county advised that the car was still traveling and was headed out of the borough.  After a short search, crews couldn’t find the vehicle and were cleared in about 15 mins.

April 26, 2008- At 1:15 Stations 1 &2 were dispatched to the area of East Second Mountain Road and Hemlock Drive for a tree across the roadway.  Crews used chainsaws and cleared the tree off the road and were placed available within 20 minutes.

April 23, 2008- Again at 21:03 Stations 1 &2 were dispatched to the intersection of South Margaretta and Market streets for a MVA with injuries.  Engine 732, Rescue 727, and Chief 720 went resonding within seconds of the dispatch.  Crews arrived on scene of a 2 car crash, and their services weren’t needed so Schuylkill Haven PD told them that they can clear the scene.  Time out- 10 mins.

April 23, 2008- Well it didn’t take long!!  5 days after the brand new Sheetz gas station had their Grand Opening at Rt 61 and Manheim Road, it claimed it’s first accident victims.  At 13:34 Stations 1 &2 were dispatched for a motor vehicle acciedent with injuries.  As Chief 720 arrived on location, he saw a 1 vehicle accident, the vehicle struck the CURB!!  Chief cleared everyone before they could even get on scene.  Time out- a solid 5 minutes.

April 21, 2008- At 11:40 today, Stations 1 &2 were dispatched to the area of 350 Route 61 South, North Manheim Twp. (Van Huesen) for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries.  Chief 720 got on the scene and advised county that there was no entrapment and no injuries, but that there was some debris on the road.  After about 25 minutes, all SHFD were cleared and placed available!!

April 20, 2008- Just after Schuylkill County EMA requested to have a “burn ban” in the entire county, Stations 1 &2 were dispatched yet again to Argo Road and West Second Mountain Road at 18:37 for another reported brush fire. Chief 720 (Peel) and 723 (Donatti) realized the location of the fire and had all units come in under caution.  After speaking to the landowner all units were placed available, and he was reminded once again of the burn ban!!

April 19, 2008- At 21:05 Stations 1 &2 were dispatched to the area of Argo Road and West Second Mountain Road for a reported brush fire called in by Chief 41-01 (Krammes Jr.) and Pottsville Medic 68-01. As Duty Chief 720 ( Peel) went responding county advised him on who called it in and the exact location. Chief Peel requested Station 4 to be dispatched for their tanker. As all incoming units arrived on location, they realized that it was a control burn and that thier services would not be needed. Chief Peel and the rest of the department were clear within minutes.

April 18, 2008- At 16:13 Station  #4 was dispatched for Tanker 738 to assist District 34 (Friedensburg and Summit Station) on a brush fire at 33 Woodlawn Drive, Wayne Twp. Crews extinguished the fire and were placed available within an hour.

April 17, 2008- At 16:33 Schuylkill Hose Station 2 was dispatched to 1 Orchard Street, Pine Grove Boro (HH&L Station) to cover for the boro of Pine Grove, as Pine Grove, Pine Grove Township, Friedensburg, and Summit Station responded to a large brush fire near the area of “Dad Burnham’s Road” Wayne Township. Engine 732 covered the boro for several hours and were placed available after all Pine Grove units cleared the scene.

April 16, 2008- Just after 03:00 Stations 1 &2 were dispatched to 1544 Route 61, North Manheim Twp. (Cressona Mall) to set up a landing zone for incoming air medical, and assist Schuylkill Haven/Pottsville Medic 63-01.  All units cleared the scene within a half hour.

April 15, 2008- To rap up a very busy and exhausting day: At 12:55 Station 1 was dispatched to 1530 Route 61 South, North Manheim Twp. for a report of a brush fire.  As the Rainbow and Chief Donatti went responding, county comm. center advised them of a “very large fire”. Chief 723 got on location and asked county to dispatch the remainder of the 1st alarm, bringing in Stations 2 &4 just as they were clearing their previous call. However, do to the large volume of fire and lack of water/manpower, Chief 723 asked county to start sending some help from mutual aid companies for their tankers, tools, etc….The Schuylkill Haven Fire Department would like to send a big thank you to the following municipalites for their help:

District 34- both stations (Friedensburg and Summit Station), District 41- both stations (Cressona), District 42- (Deer Lake), District 58- both stations- (HH&L and North End) District 53- (Mount Carbon), Pottsville City- (Stations 10 & 70), Minersville- (Engine 528),  Disctrict 47- (Landingville) and the Forestry Department.

April 15, 2008- Again at 12:45 Stations 2 &4 were dispatched to 200 University Drive, North Manheim Twp. for a vehicle leaking fluids. Chief 723 (Donatti) arrived and advised of a small leak and that Engine 732 would take the call and placed Engine 737 available. All units cleared soon after.

April 15, 2008- Today turned out to be a VERY busy day for the S.H.F.D.  It started at 08:04 as Stations 1 &4 were dispatched to the area of 220 West Columbia Street in the boro, for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries. As units went responding, county advised of a 2 car crash involving a garbage truck and a minivan. Duty Chief 723 (Donatti) got on location and advised that there were no injuries, but that there was fluid and debris all over the roadway.  Crews from the 2 companies removed the debris and the fluids and went available within a half hour.

April 13,2008- At 03:07 Stations 1 &2 were dispatched to 110 Rte 61 South, North Manheim Twp. (First United Church of Christ) to set up a Landing Zone for incoming Medivac 7. This was a result from a one vehicle crash at Garfield Avenue and Second Mountain Road, just outside Schuylkill Haven Boro.

April 8, 2008- At 07:02 S.H.F.D. was dispatched to 401 University Drive, North Manheim Township for an Automatic Fire Alarm (Rest Haven Nursing Home). Chief 722 went responding and was advised by county of a possible smoke condition. Upon further investigation, they found the problem and advised maintenance personnel and cleared the scene within 20 minutes.

April 7, 2008- At 15:01 Stations 1 &2 along with Duty Chief 722 (Satty) were dispatched to 1426 Rt. 61 South, North Manheim Twp (Stoner Tile) for a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries.  Chief 722 arrived on location and advised county of no injuries but there were fluids down, and advised all incoming units to respond under caution. Crews took care of the fluids and debris on the roadway and were placed available within 30 minutes.

April 6, 2008- At 01:45 all 3 Haven companies were dispatched to 350 Route 61 South, North Manheim Twp. (Van Huesen) for an Automatic Fire Alarm.  As Duty Chief 722 (Sattizahn) went responding county advised him of a waterflow alarm in sector 21 of the building.  Chief 722 arrived on the scene with nothing showing from the exterior. It was detected that this was an accidental trip. However, the alarm was not reset because the keyholder could not show up on location. So after several minutes, all units were cleared and placed available.

April 4, 2008- Today at 13:54 stations 1 &2 along with District 41 (Cressona) were dispatched to the Giant Food store in the Cressona Mall for a vehicle fire. While units were going responding county gave additional stating there was no fire visible but smoke coming from the engine compartment. As Chief 41-05 (Woleschock) arrived on scene, he advised county that the fire was out and that there was no need for any further dispatches as he had Ladder 725 and Engine 732 on the street.  Units cleared the call in about 20 minutes.

April 2, 2008- Again this morning at 09:14 tones “dropped” again, only this time for Liberty Station #4 to respond to 101 West Second Mountain Road, North Manheim Twp. for a rekindle from the previous structure fire on Sunday.  Chief 720 asked for Tanker 738 to respond normal flow and hit the “hot spots” while the insurance companies sifted through the debris. Crews were placed available in 1 hour.

April 2, 2008- Early this morning at 02:26 Stations 1 &2 (Rainbow & Schuylkill Hose) along with Chief 720, were dispatched to 401 University Drive, North Manheim Twp for a smoke investigation. Upon units going responding , County advised of smoke odor coming from the maintenance building for the Rest Haven Nursing Home. While investigating crews found that their was a problem with the outside utilities and contacted PPL right away to fix the problem. Chief Peel and all units cleared in under an hour.

March 31, 2008- Today at 16:04 Schuylkill Hose Station 2 was dispatched along with District 34 (Friedensburg & Summit Station) to 723 Route 183 South, Wayne Twp for a report of a house fire, with smoke coming out of the basement.  Station 2 was originally dispatched for manpower, but were soon placed back in service prior to arrival by Wayne Twp command 34-02 (Fidler).

March 30, 2008- This morning at 00:14 the Schuylkill Haven Fire Department was dispatched to 101 West Second Mountain Road, North Manheim Twp. for a structure fire. While duty Chief 720 (Peel) went responding, county advised him that the caller had said this was a working shed fire to the rear of the address. Upon Chief Peel’s arrival he confirmed a working/fully involved shed fire. All S.H.F.D. units were tied up for roughly an hour and were placed back in service.

March 26, 2008- Once again today at 16:51 by orders of Pottsville Chief P-6, the Schuylkill Haven R.I.T. (Enginge 737, Squad 739) was dispatched to 229 North 9th Street Pottsville City for a working structure fire. R.I.T. was placed available after about an hour. No pics available.

March 22, 2008- Early this morning at 01:28, Rainbow Station 1 was dispatched to 416 Hess Steet in the boro to assist Medic 63-01 on a cardiac arrest.  Duty Chief 723 (Donatti) and Squad 726 remainded on scene for about 15 minutes and went available.

March 20th, 2008- Today at 16:39 Schuylkill Haven R.I.T. Engine 737, and Squad 739 (rapid invtervention team) was dispatched to 204 North Center St.  (E&T Trophy) Pottsville City for a working structure fire.

March 18th, 2008- Tonight at 20:32 S.H.F.D. was dispatched to the Schuylkill Haven Area High School for a Automatic Fire Alarm.  As duty chief 722 (Satty) arrived on location, maintenance personnel advised him of a problem with a hot water heater which had tripped the alarm.  Within minutes crews fixed the problem, reset the alarm, and were placed available.

March 14th, 2008- This evening at 19:20 Station 4 (Liberty) was dispatched along with Districts 34 (Summit and Friendensburg) 39 (Auburn) and 47 (Landingville) for a report of a brush fire at 1 Stoney Lane, South Manheim Twp. for a reported brush fire. While units were going responding, county advised of lightning striking a tree, causing the brush fire.  As command 34-05 (J. Ulsh) arrived on scene, he advised of a small fire and to cancel all units. All incoming units were placed available within minutes of response.

March 13th, 2008- Today at 16:57 S.H.F.D. was dispatched to to 115 St. John Street in the boro for a report of smoke in a structure.  Upon units going responding, county advised that it was electrical, and coming from a refrigerator. March 12th, 2008- Today at 13:07 Schuylkill Hose Station 2 was dispatched to assist Disctrict 34 (Summit Station and Friedensburg) for a house fire at 4 Kurtz Road, Washington Twp. Engine 732 was requested for manpower to the scene, but before arriving the engine was placed available and put back in service.

March 10th, 2008- At 20:23 Chief 720 was sent to 3 Earl Street, North Manheim Twp (M&Q Pacakaging) for a utilites investigation. Chief Peel detected faulty wiring within their electrical box, no additional units were needed and 720 cleared in about 10 mins.

March 10th, 2008- Today at 14:55 Chief 720 (Peel) was dispatched to the area of 305 East Main Street in the boro for wires down. Upon his arrival, the local utilities crew was repairing the wire.  Chief cleared himself from the call moments after dispatch.

March 8th, 2008- Just as units were clearing from the tree down call Stations 1 and 2 were dispatched along with Districts 39 (Auburn) 42 (Deer Lake) 34 station 2 (Summit Station) for a reported commercial structure fire at 242 Orchard Street Auburn Boro ( E & T Pizza, with apartment building).  Auburn command arrived on scene with “smoke showing”.  As it turned out, it was a small dryer fire.  All Schuylkill Haven units were placed available before arriving on location.

March 8th, 2008- After several wind gusts hammered Schuylkill Haven, Stations 2 and 4 along with Chief 720 (Peel) were dispatched to 34 East William Street in the boro for a tree down on wires, with the wires arcing at around 23:08.  Crews stood by for a half hour until power was restored in the boro.

March 8th, 2008- S.H.F.D. under command of Chief 720 (Peel) were dispatched to 350 Route 61 South in North Manheim Twp (Van Huesen) for an A.F.A. at 16:23.  Upon arrival crews made and interior and exterior search and came up with a faulty detector.  All units cleared in 40 minutes.

March 6th, 2008- Station 4 and Chief 731 were notified via landline of approx. 2 feet of water in a residence at 127 St. James Street in the boro at around 12 pm. The station 4 crew removed the water and cleared the scene in about 45 minutes.

March 6th, 2008- This morning at 11:05 Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched, under the direction of acting Duty Chief 731, to  the intersection of Centre Avenue and Mildred Street in the boro for a minor motor vehicle accident with fluids down. Crews from the companies cleaned up debris and fluids and were placed available.

March 5th, 2008- What is turning out to be a busy morning for S.H.F.D. Station 2 at the request of Chief 731 was dispatched to 110 E. Union Street in the boro at 11:23 for yet another “pump job”. *Thanks Aimee Peel for the pics*

March 5th, 2008- Again this morning at 10:10 Station 4 was requested by Chief 723 (Donatti) to respond to 1899 Long Run Road, North Manheim Twp. for a pump detail. Upon units getting on scene they found that there was approx. 2 feet of water in the basement. 

March 5th, 2008- This morning at 06:05 Station 4, Liberty was dispatched to 55 N. Berne St. in the boro for a pump detail. Acting Duty Chief 731 (Zulick) got on scene and after several minutes, cancelled all units.

March 4th, 2008- At 15:40 Station 1 and Station 2 were dispatched to the are of 356 Centre Ave (Shell Gas station) for a vehicle leaking fluids called in by Haven Police Dept.  Chiefs 722 (Sattizahn) and 723 (Donatti) went responding and found a gasoline trail that apparently came from the area of Willow Street in boro. Crews cleaned up at the gas station and applied floor dry to all areas affected by the leak, which also included going into the Schuylkill River. 

March 3rd, 2008- Chief 723 was dispatched to investigate a smoke condition in the area of 2012 Long Run Road in North Manheim Twp at 21:40. Chief Donatti asked for assistance from Station #4. Upon further investigation, they found it to be a burn barrel. All units were placed available within 10 minutes.

March 3rd, 2008- S.H.F.D. was dispatched to 2 Pear Street in Schuylkill Haven Boro for a reported house fire. Duty Chief 723 (Donatti) got on scene and reported the fire to be out and advised all units to come in under caution. Crews ventilated the house and went available within 20 minutes.

March 1st, 2008- At 16:11 Schuylkill Hose Station 2 was dispatched to 1 Orchard St in Pine Grove for a stand-bye assignment, as Pine Grove (District 58) and Pine Grove Twp. (District 21) were on the scene of a working mobile home fire. Engine 732 covered for the boro of Pine Grove until all their units were cleared from the fire.

February 29, 2008- At 11:02 Liberty Station #4 was dispatched to assist District 56 (Orwigsburg) and 47 (Landingville) at an AFA at 144 W. Adamsdale Road, North Manheim Township. Tanker 738 went responding and was cancelled prior to arrival by incident command 47-01 (Thomas). All units placed available within minutes of dispatch.

February 26, 2008- At 15:20 the Rainbow Hose Station #1 were dispatched to 100 Industrial Drive Orwigsburg for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment assisting District 56 (Orwigsburg). February 25, 2008- This afternoon at 14:31 Station 2 (Schuylkill Hose) and Station 4 (Liberty) under the command of Chief 722 (Sattizahn) were dispatched to a 2 car motor vehicle accident with no injuries, but with fluids down at 336 W. Columbia Street in Schuylkill Haven(Losch). The accident was minor, incoming engines spread floor dry, and all went available in under 10 minutes. No pics available.

February 25, 2008- Liberty Station #4 was dispatched to assist District 34 (Friedensburg and Summit Station) on a working structure fire at 1383 Long Run Road, Wayne Township at 10:15. District 34 command 34-02 (Fidler) requested a full station bringing in Engine 737, Wagon 736, and Tanker 738.  Command placed the fire under control within an hour and a half. Big thanks to “Tuff 2” for assisting Station 4 with personnel.

February 24, 2008- Duty Chief 722 (Satty) was dispatched to 20 Wilson St again at 19:36 for same reason as before.  The chief notified the homeowner of a faulty detector and went available within 10 mins.

February 24, 2008- Again this morning at 11:53 Chief 722 (Sattizahn) was dispatched to 20 Wilson St in the borough for a carbon monoxide investigation. Upon his investigation, he found low levels of carbon monoxide therefore no apparatus was dispatched.  He placed himself available in under 20 minutes.

February 24, 2008- This morning at 08:20 S.H.F.D. was dispatched to smoke in a commercial/apartment building at 16 E. Main St in the borough (better known as the Haven Arcade).  Upon investigation, under the command of Chief 722 (Sattizahn) they realized that the cause of the smoke was a circulator pump on the furnace burnt up.  Crews did a brief search of the building and removed the smoke and were placed available within an hour.

February 20, 2008- At 0349 hours Liberty Station 4 was dispatched to assist District 34 on a structure fire at “The Lodge” in Lake Wynonah. The call originally came in as an AFA for Dist. 34 Sta.2. Upon Chief 34-06(J.Fenstermacher) arrival he advised county of a structure fire and to upgrade the assignment, which brough in Dist.34 Station 1, Liberty Station 4, and Rainbow Station 1 for their ladder.

February 17, 2008 – At 0405 hours, all Schuylkill Haven Fire Stations were summonded to 32 St. John Street for smoke in the structure. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a lite haze in the basement, and found the oil burner was malfunctioning.

February 15, 2008 – At 1932 hours, all S.H.F.D. Stations were dispatched  to meet at Station 1 for a search. A few minutes later the call was cancelled, the subject was located.

February 13, 2008 – At 1838 hours, Stations 2 & 4 were dispatched to a reported transformer fire at 931 Schuylkill Mountain Rd. in South Manheim Twp.

February 11, 2008 – Fire District 56, 47, 42 and Station 1 for Ladder 725 were dispatched at 1829 hours for a reported structure fire at 605 West market St. in Orwigsburg. Engine 56-10 arrived on scene and had all units respond with caution.

February 08, 2008 – A report of an explosion in the 300 block of Saint John St. had all S.H.F.D. Stations responding at 1825 hours. Chief 722 (Sattizahn) and Chief 730 (Reed) arrived in the area to find nothing showing. A search of St. John St. and the railroad bed , firefighters still found nothing.

February 06, 2008 – At 0935 hours, Stations 1 & 4 were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on West Main St. in the area of Boyers IGA. Chief 722 (Sattizahn) arrived on scene along with Rescue 727, and cancelled Station 4.

February 05, 2008 – Chief 722 (Sattizahn) was dispatched to an odor investigation at 104 E. Main St. at 1652 hours. Chief 722 Requested Station 2 to assist. Minutes later the Chief requested Station 1 also to assist.

February 05, 2008 – Fire District 41, Stations 1 & 4 were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 23 Front St. in Cressona. Chief 41 (Mansell) arrived on scene to report a working fire. Chief 41 cancelled Ladder 725 just before arriving on scene.

January 31, 2008 – At 0215 hours, Station 2 was dispatched to move up into District 58 Station 1.

January 29, 2008 – Stations 1 & 4 were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries in the area of 123 Shady Lane in North Manheim Twp. at 1929 hours.

January 29, 2008 – At 1200 hours Stations 1 & 4 were dispatched to a person struck by a vehicle at 468 W. Columbia St. Rescue 727 was to respond to the scene for a medical assist and Station 4 for traffic control.

January 29, 2008 – Stations 2 & 4 were dispatched to 1117 Schuylkill Mountain Road for a vehicle accident with fluids down. Engine 733 handled the call at 0909 hours.

 

January 27, 2008 – Stations 1 & 4, along with Districts 56, 47, and 42 were dispatched 1000 Orwigsburg Manor Rd. in Orwigsburg for an Automatic Fire Alarm at 1857 hours.

January 22, 2008 – Station 1 was requested to assist Fire Districts 42 & 56 on a motor vehicle accident with injuries and entrapment on Route 61 in Deer Lake at 1628 hours.

January 20, 2008 – Fire District 47 was dispatched to 1332 Schuylkill Mountain Rd. in South Manheim Twp. for a chimney fire. Chief 47 arrived on scene and requested Station 4 to assist at 1721 hours.

January 18, 2008 – Station 2 was dispatched at 2012 hours to the 300 Block of Main St. for a vehicle leaking fluids. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a trail of fluids on Main St., St. John St., and back to William St. Chief 723 (Donatti) requested Station 4 to assist.

January 16, 2008- At the request of Chief 722 (Sattizahn), Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to Cardinal Systems on Route 61 for an unknown type fire at 2156 hours.

January 14, 2008 – At 1838 hours, Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to 356 Center Ave. for a vehicle leaking fluids.

January 11, 2008 – Fire District 41 was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries on Route 183 at Morning Side Drive. District 41 was advised of a vehicle over the embankment, A Chief Officer from District 41 request Station 1 for the Rescue be dispatched.  Rescue 727 was cancelled as they went responding.

January 11, 2008- A motor vehicle accident with unknown injuries and fluids down at 275 Route 61 South in North Manhein Twp. had Stations 1 & 2 responding at 1658 hours

January 7, 2008 – Station 4 for Tanker 738 was dispatched to assist District 34 Station 2 on a vehicle fire at 918 Wynonah Dr in Wayne Twp. The call was dispatched at 1321 hours.

January 6, 2008 – Chief 720 (Peel) requested Stations 2 & 4 be dispatched to assist on a propane leak at 210 St. Peter St at 1412 hours.

January 6, 2008 – At 0936 hours District 34, 47 and Station 4 were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 2444 Running Bear Cove in South Manheim Twp. Chief 34-06 arrived on scene to find a home charged with smoke

January 4, 2008 – Station 1 for Ladder 725, Districts 56, 42, 47 were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 127 Second Mountain Rd. in West Brunswick Twp. As units were responding, they were advised this would be a chimney fire. The call was dispatched at 2029 hours.

January 4, 2008 – Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched at 1843 hours for a motor vehicle accident with no injuries, but had fluids down on the road at the intersection of Center & Garfield Ave.

January 3, 2008 – Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched at 1521 hours to a motor vehicle accident with injuries and entrapment on Route 61 in the area of R & R Auto Group. Station 4 was sent to set up a landing zone.
